Verse of the Day. Jesus said: “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17
2020 has been quite a year so far, hasn’t it? The Bible tells us that no one knows the day or hour when the Lord will return, but it’s at times like these that make us wonder if these recent events are leading up to that time.
The Bible says in Joel 2:11-13, “day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”
“…rend your heart, and not your garments…” I love that. We need to have a sincere repentance, not just an outward show of religious works. God knows our hearts. Religious works and good deeds will not appease the Lord. Our Christian walk begins with turning away from sin and fully committing our lives to God. We can’t serve our holy God if we’re living in sin. Repentance comes first, then, with Christ’s help, good works will follow.
We may not know when Jesus is coming back, but every day that goes by is one day closer. When you meet Him – when He returns or when you die and face God – will the Lord see a sincere heart or worthless religious works?
