Provisions, Temptations, and Blessings – Part 3

Provisions, Temptations, and Blessings – Part 3

Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”  11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” Mathew 4:8-11

In this last post on this passage we see the Lord Jesus, weak with hunger and fatigue, fight off the devil’s last temptation.  We see that the ultimate goal of the devil was to be worshiped.  However, Jesus refuted him by saying, “You shall worship with Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.”

And what an awesome God we worship!  He left his heavenly kingdom to come to us and save us.  He took on the form of a man, with all of our frailties and facing our same temptations.  The Bible says in Hebrews 4:15: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

What a blessing to know that we can turn to the Lord for help, guidance, and comfort when we are facing trials since He personally understands our situation.  He is not some distant God who doesn’t know us.  We have a God who not only knows and loves us, but who can “sympathize with our weaknesses.”
