“…make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1:17
Hi everyone! It’s been a while since we’ve posted here. The whole world has gone into lockdown with “stay-at-home” orders. It’s amazing how FAST our whole lives have changed: one instant there’s enough food – and toilet paper – the next minute we have empty shelves in our stores. Did you feel unprepared for this? Many people felt the fear and anxiety of not having enough to sustain their family and worried what the future would hold.
It seems like things are getting better, but I would like to ask you something personal: are you prepared?
I’ve been reading lots of online articles on prepping: how long can I store rice, flour, beans? How do I can vegetables? How many chickens can I have in our city? I consider myself a mini-prepper since I always have enough food and supplies to last for about a month, chickens for eggs, and a veggie garden. However, I must admit I did freak out when I went shopping in early March and saw all the empty shelves. It was very sobering and, yes, scary, to realize how fast our resources can disappear. But then I remembered the same God who supplied Israel’s needs in the desert is the same God we have today! What a comfort in that thought.
While it is good for us to prepare for a disaster and stock up on food and supplies, I would like to encourage you to be prepared for something even greater: the coming of the Lord.
Jesus said, “Surely I am coming quickly.” (Rev. 22:20). It’s been about 2,000 years since He said that, which doesn’t seem quick. So I’d like to propose a different view to this. When the Lord said “quickly” I think He means suddenly. When end time events start to unfold, it will happen suddenly and the whole world will be forever changed. Just like our entire planet changed almost overnight with the coronavirus, the coming of Jesus will happen quickly and many people will not be prepared.
I feel this pandemic is a wake-up call for us to be spiritual preppers: is your eternal destination settled with the Lord? Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior? Have you obeyed Jesus’ command to be baptized and serve faithfully in a scriptural Bible-believing church?
I personally feel the Lord’s return will happen sooner than we think. The Bible tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2 that the Day of the Lord will come after the anti-christ, the “man of sin is revealed..so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” If you’ve been keeping track of what’s happening in Israel you will see that the temple is close to being built: the will of people and their efforts to raise a red heifer to start animal sacrifices is almost ready. It’s exciting to see prophecy from thousands of years ago come to fruition, and to know that each day that goes by is one day closer to the Lord’s return!
So, I’ll ask again: are you prepared? For the Lord will come suddenly. If you’re not looking for the signs of His return, you will be caught unprepared and wondering how all this happened so fast.
